NAB arrests MQM-P's election candidate Javed Hanif

Physical remand of Hanif will be sought during today's hearing.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday has arrested Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Javed Hanif for allegedly making illegal appointments.

Javed Hanif, former chief of Karachi Port Trust (KPT), was detained from his residence in South Karachi. The team said that Hanif was involved in illegal 340 appointments along with Babar Ghauri that resulted in a loss of Rs3 billion to the national exchequer.

The appointments were carried out in violation of KPT law, rules and regulations while they were also made without advertisement of vacancies and any other criteria.

He also hired people involved in criminal practices including dacoity, murder and terrorism, the investigation officer told.

Moreover, physical remand of Hanif will be sought during today’s hearing.
