FO contacts US State Dept regarding alleged mistreatment of Dr Aafia

TEXAS (Dunya News) – Foreign Office of Pakistan on Saturday has contacted United States Department of State regarding alleged mistreatment of Pakistani scientist imprisoned in Texas, Dr Aafia Siddiqui.

The spokesman of State Department has confirmed that Pakistan FO had asked about mistreatment of Dr Aafia, saying that the prisoners in the US are being treated under the provisions of international laws.

Earlier, Supreme Court (SC) had summoned a report from Pakistan Embassy in Washington regarding Dr Aafia over a petition filed by the imprisoned scientist’s sister Dr Fouzia.

Pakistan Embassy in Washington should inform whether Aafia is alive or not, the top judge directed.

Meanwhile, Pakistan consul general in Houston Aisha Farooqi had rejected all rumors about the health of Aafia Siddiqui and said that she  visited the FMC Carswell detention centre in Fort Worth, Texas and met Dr Aafia.

Dr Aafia Siddiqui is a Pakistani neuroscientist, who in 2010 was convicted of seven counts of attempted murder and assault of US personnel and is serving her 86-year sentence at the Federal Medical Center, Carswell in Fort Worth, Texas.
