Six people drown at Gaddani beach
Picnickers belonged to Karachi's Lyari area.
KARACHI (Dunya News) - At least six picnickers including women and children from Lyari area drowned at Gaddani beach on Friday. Reportedly, bodies of four women and a minor girl have been recovered while search for two more persons is underway.
The deceased have been identified as Humaira, Sadaf, Shahida and 12-year-old Mehak, whereas, search is underway for two children Amaan and Sufiyan.
The Pakistan Navy has also dispatched its swimmers and one of its helicopters to take part in the search efforts.
Thousands of residents regularly throng Karachi s beaches on weekends, with few public parks for picnics. But safety standards are very low with the few lifeguards on duty often unable to exert any authority.
