Ex-army chief Aslam Baig appears before committee in Asghar Khan case

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Former army chief General (Retd) Mirza Aslam Baig on Wednesday appeared before Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) five-member committee in Asghar Khan case.

The committee posed questioned before Baig regarding forming right-wing Islami Jamhoori Ittehad (IJI) and distributing money among various political factions. The committee also recorded Baig’s statement.

Sources privy to development stated that the committee had grilled former army chief for over an hour.

Former Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) Let. Gen (retd) Asad Durrani is also expected to record his statement today.

It is worth here to mention that FIA had constituted a five-member committee on directives of Supreme Court to probe infamous Asghar Khan case.

The committee will investigate all those who are facing allegations of distributing and receiving money to halt then Shaheed Benazir Bhutto-led Pakistan Peoples Party from coming to power in general polls 1990.
