Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani: A look at the life of the politician

(Dunya News) – Senior politician of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani lived a rich political life during which he served as federal and provincial minister, holding different portfolios.

Starting his political career in 1974, he served four times as MNA and thrice as MPA in the Sindh Assembly. He was also elected senator in 1988. 

Bijarani was born on July 10, 1946 in the Kashmoor district of Sindh. Following his early education, he completed his B.A. from Karachi and went on to pursue his Masters in Politics. He studied law and later pursued it as a career.

Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani was one of the closest aides of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who founded the PPP. He went on to be elected as MPA in the Sindh Assembly, first time in 1974 and second in 1977. Following the General Elections in 1988, he was elected senator.

He was elected MNA from Jacobabad in 1990, 1997 and 2002. He was elected as MNA again during the 2008 elections. In 2013, he was elected as MPA in Sindh.

During his political career, Bijarani served as minister for defence, education and railways. In Qaim Ali Shah’s cabinet, he served as Minister for Works and Services while as Minister for Planning and Development in CM Murad Ali Shah’s cabinet.

Bijarani had married twice and had five children. His wife, Fariha Razzaq Haroon served as MPA in Sindh Assembly on reserved seats for women. She had also been associated with journalism in the past.

Bijarani’s son, Mir Shabbir Bijarani is a member of the National Assembly.

Politicians across the country offered condolences over the death of Bijarani and his wife.
