Hajj balloting postponed over SHC's stay order
The new date for the draw will be announced afterwards.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Ministry of Religious Affairs on Friday postponed the Hajj balloting indefinitely in the aftermath of the stay order issued by the Sindh High Court (SHC).
The lucky draw was to be held at 4pm today but a meeting of the ministry headed by Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf decided that the process will be held later.
The new date for the draw will be announced afterwards.
Sukkur bench of SHC had issued the stay order over the draw a day before following the petition filed by Mufti Abdul Majid against the Hajj policy.
The petition says that new Hajj policy prevents a person from performing the pilgrimage more than once within a specific time period. The petitioner says that this move of the ministry is against Sharia.
The meeting of the ministry has now decided to challenge SHC’s stay order in Supreme Court after which a new date for the draw will be finalized.
