Neglect threatens Palkhu Bridge

(Dunya News) – Constructed ages ago, Wazirabad’s Palkhu Bridge has now started to tremble with the flow of traffic due to its worsening structural conditions.
Located on the Grand Trunk Road in Wazirabad, the Palkhu Bridge connects the area to Gujrat as well as to the rest of the cities.
While the bridge accommodates thousands of vehicles every day, the material used to support the structure from underneath has, with the passage of time, started to erode. Cracks in the construction are also visible.

Even though the Chairman Municipal Committee Wazirabad and other local authorities have advised the highway department to get the bridge checked by engineers while closing it for traffic, the Provincial Highway Department has shown no concern.
Strict policies should be introduced in order to force the authorities to take precautionary measures to avoid tragic accidents.
