Asif Zardari refuses to meet Nawaz Sharif

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, also known as a master of rapprochement, has on Thursday refused to meet ousted prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif.

The news was confirmed by PPP Senator and spokesperson Farhatullah Babar. He opted the stance that it is not the right time for the leaders to meet and conduct dialogues.

According to details, Asif Zardari has remarked that Nawaz Sharif is responsible for the current political situation in Pakistan. The disqualified premier talks about Charter of Democracy only when he finds himself in trouble, commented Zardari.

Furthermore, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has also apologized to meet Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. It is worth mentioning here that Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah had on Wednesday informed the party leadership about PM Abbasi’s wish to hold a meeting.

Let it be known that the move by PPP came two days after the National Assembly (NA) rejected a motion tabled on Tuesday concerning disqualified lawmakers who lead political parties, with 163 to 98 votes.

The bill was earlier moved in Senate and was adopted with 49 votes in favor and 18 votes against it.

The Elections (Amendment) Bill, 2017 was put forth by Naveed Qamar of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). He said that a lawmaker who is barred to attend sessions of National Assembly by the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) cannot lead a political party as it is against Article 62 and Article 63 of Constitution of Pakistan.
