Azad Jammu and Kashmir University: Lack of hostels distress female students
Some forty thousand students from all across the country including those from Gilgit Baltistan study
(Dunya News) – Owing to the shortage of residential arrangements for students, the Azad Jammu and Kashmir University is lacking hostels for girls in both city and Chehla campuses. This has resulted in major difficulties for its female students coming in from different parts of the country.
For some, it has become impossible to even continue their course of studies.
Some forty thousand students from all across the country including those from Gilgit Baltistan study at the University, out of which a majority is that of female students.
While the university is able to lodge only sixty female students, the rest are forced to take up accommodation in private hostels and some, due to lack of proper educational and residential facilities, have already quit the university.
Talking to Dunya News, students said that it is very difficult for them to reside in private hostels because the high rents not only upset their budgets but the lack of facilities also affects their academic performance.
They also said that although multiple applications requesting accommodation have been submitted to the university’s administration, no action has been taken by the authorities.
