Security institutions foiled 4655 terrorist attempts during 2017, weakened terrorists financially

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Terrorist attacks in 2017 decreased by 27% as the security institutions foiled 4655 attempts of terrorism during the year. The successful operations reduced the number of attacks while strong check also cut the financial supply of the terrorists, reported Dunya News.

According to National Action Plan (NAP) report, 3,572,615 search operations were conducted and 227,000 suspected terrorists were arrested during the year. The mutual cooperation between the intelligence agencies helped foil 4655 terrorist attacks.

NAP report 2016-17 states that 72 terrorists have so far been executed and over 350 terrorists were handed death sentences. 219 cases have been referred to military courts. The military courts handed out verdicts in 49 cases while 176 are still being heard.

The report tells that 1353 cases were registered for spreading religious hatred. 2585 people were arrested. 8333 people were added to the fourth schedule. Rs 300 million were seized freezing 5023 accounts of terrorists’ financiers.
