NAB challenges Captain (r) Safdar's bail in IHC

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday has challenged Captain (r) Safdar’s bail in corruption references against him in Islamabad High Court (IHC).

In the petition, it was stated that only apex court can order release of an accused after his detention. Accountability court should have sent Captain (r) Safdar to jail instead of granting him bail, NAB officials said.

The plea also demanded to annul the NAB court’s decision and issue directives in this matter.

On October 9, Captain (r) Safdar was arrested by NAB from Islamabad airport as he returned from London along with wife Maryam Nawaz but both were granted bails after Sharif family lawyer Tariq Fazal Chaudhry submitted two surety bonds worth Rs5 million each in the court.

However, on October 20, the court indicted ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Capt (retd) Safdar in the NAB Avenfield reference against them.
