Corruption worth Rs 80 billion reported in 56 departments stretching over the whole province

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah on Tuesday approved a petition to hear the corruption scandal worth Rs 80 billion in 56 companies of Punjab after Dunya News unveiled the scandal.

Justice Shah will hear the petition on October 25. LHC declared the petition maintainable and hence approved it for case proceeding.

The petitioner stated that NAB should be ordered immediately to probe the mega corruption scandal in Punjab-based companies. He highlighted media reports claiming corruption worth Rs 80 billion in several districts.

Earlier, a special committee had been formed by Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif to probe the financial irregularities worth Rs 800 million in as many as 56 companies in Punjab. The committee – led by Punjab Finance Minister Ayesha Ghaus Pasha – had summoned audit reports of these provincial departments in order to check their expenditures and employee record.

Punjab Finance Department had stated that it does not have direct control over aforementioned companies whereas funds are issued after formal approval from departments concerned. Punjab govt had constituted these 56 companies under guise of good governance and registered them under Article-42 of Companies Ordinance 1984.
