Chief Justice gave remarks that there are no official documents of leasing the large-scale land

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar said on Tuesday that there is no available record to justify land lease or farming in the official documents regarding the large-scale agricultural lands held by PTI leader and lawmaker Jahangir Khan Tareen.

The apex court expressed doubts on the record of leased land presented by Tareen’s lawyer. SC CJ pointed out presence of no land record number and other essential, and raised reservations on the documents while declaring it a little help to determine facts. “Only documents of lease cannot establish facts,” he remarked.

Justice Nisar asked Tareen’s lawyer to give justification of farming on the agricultural land by provision of record. He asked, “Do you want us to summon revenue officers or constitute commission.”

When the lawyer stressed on the payment of Rs 210 million to land owners in lease, SC CJ responded saying it was unusual to do so without any crosscheck.

Justice Umar Ata Bandial remarked that the checks are regarding payment of sugarcanes while crushing in Tareen’s sugar mill.

Justice Faisal Arab also expressed his opinion regarding the hearing and said that sugar mill owners keep the land record while giving debts. Illegal payments are shown as a part of agricultural income, he added.

The case will be next heard on October 18 (Wednesday).
