ECP wrote to chief secretary that violations in code of conduct for elections were observed

LAHORE (Dunya News) – As political parties have geared up their election campaigns for NA-120 by poll, there have been several violations of the code of conduct, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) wrote to Punjab chief secretary.

Giants including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) as well as candidates from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Milli Muslim League (MML) have been actively conducting their campaign in the constituency. In the letter to chief secretary, ECP highlighted the violation of the code of conduct during NA-120 by-election campaigns by certain political parties.

ECP has tried several times to make the political parties abide by their codes. Directions were issued to ruling PML-N earlier while notices were issued to MPAs including Bilal Yasin for appearing in NA-120 to campaign.

The returning officer from ECP directed Punjab chief secretary and inspector general (IG) to not approve any rally by any political party in the constituency. It was told today that all kinds of rallies or conventions by political parties will remain banned in NA-120 till the election on September 17.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) have decided to support PTI s Yasim Rashid in the by-poll.
