(Dunya News) - Fear gripped the trade capital of the country, Karachi, after reports of a cyclone hitting Karachi’s coastline made rounds earlier on Thursday.

However, putting an end to rumours, the meteorological department confirmed only heavy rainfalls for the next couple of days.

The rainfall system that entered Karachi after flooding Mumbai, India, has now flooded the streets of Karachi. An area stretched to up to 2km in radius, starting from Nagin Chowrangi to Powerhouse Chowrangi, has been flooded completely.

Although an emergency has been imposed across the city, authorities are nowhere to be found and the situation is getting worse with the passage of time. Following heavy rainfall, roads have been flooded, and the city’s sewerage system has failed to drain rain water posing serious threats to the citizens.

Entrance and exit routes to Sarjani Town have been blocked for traffic, and a massive power cut has struck the city after a number of grid stations tripped due to rain.

Life in the provincial capital of sindh has been affected badly due to the absence of electric power supply in major parts of the city including Maleer, Korangi, Nazimabad, North Karachi, Sarjani Town, PECHS Society, Guru Mandir, Model Colony, Gulshan e Iqbal, Sohrab Goth, and Gulberg.
