Standing Committee of Senate recommended to carry out census in 1680 blocks again for sample.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Major political parties including Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have rejected the provisional Census results.

Talking to media, PSP leader Anees Advocate said that discrimination with Karachi people is not accepted. He said there is a class that doesn’t want equal distribution of resources, adding that Supreme Court (SC) will be contacted in this regard while rallies and seminars will also be held after Eid.

Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) chief Dr Farooq Sattar alleged that rural population in Sindh including Karachi was intentionally shown in less number. He said we don’t accept these results.

On the other hand, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics has failed to satisfy the Standing Committee of Senate who later recommended to carry out census in 1680 blocks again for sample.

Earlier, Sindh government had announced to call an all parties conference (APC) to decide the future plan of action on the issue.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Nisar Ahmed Khoro said that showing less population in census results is a conspiracy while PPP lawmaker said that this was done to make sure Sindh didn’t get a raise in its share in National Finance Commission (NFC) award.

Karachiites spoke up on the shortcomings of 6th Population Census 2017 on social media. Provisional results of census released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) showed that Karachi’s total population is 14.91 million. This is a 62% increase from the 1998 figure of 9.339 million.
