DSP Traffic, constable shot dead in Karachi

KARACHI (Dunya News) – A deputy superintendent of traffic police and his security guard were gunned down in Karachi on Friday morning.

DSP Hanif’s vehicle came under attack in Azizabad area when he was on his way home from office.



According to sources, unidentified gunmen surrounded his car and fired around 15 bullets, killing the top traffic officer and constable Sultan on the spot.

Soon after the incident, law enforcement personnel reached the scene and started an investigation after collecting evidence. Preliminary investigation reveals that 9mm pistols were used in the incident.


Relatives mourn DSP Hanif’s killing


Zulfiqar Larik, deputy inspector general of police, said it was unclear who was behind the shooting but suspicion fell on local militants who often claim responsibility for attacks on security forces in Karachi and elsewhere in the country.

So far, twelve policemen have been murdered in the metropolis in the last three months.
