PTI lawyer says ECP wasn't authorised forum to determine foreign funding, it's federal govt's job

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has on Thursday demanded more time for submitting its answer in the foreign funding case. PTI lawyer maintained before the court that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) wasn’t the authorised forum to determine the foreign funding as it was federal government’s job, reported Dunya News.

Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi’s petitions against PTI chairman Imran Khan and senior leader Jahangir Tareen are being heard in Supreme Court of Pakistan. PTI demanded more time for submitting its response on the issue of ECP’s domain and authority to probe foreign funding issue.

Responding to PTI’s plea, Justice Umar Atta Bandial said that the hearing was being delayed but it didn’t mean that the court was satisfied with the lawyer’s arguments.

PTI lawyer Anwar Mansoor told the court that PTI chairman Imran Khan couldn’t be consulted on the issue of party funds. He added that PTI had objections on third party scrutiny of the accounts.

When Chief Justice asked if PTI had any objections on the authority of the election commission, Anwar Mansoor said that Imran Khan couldn’t be consulted on the issue. He said that the election commission was neither a court nor a tribunal. He prayed that the federal government was the only entity authorised to decide on the foreign funding issue.

Allowing the PTI lawyer time to consult with Imran Khan on the case, the court adjourned the hearing till May 23.
