ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad while announcing the verdict of Islamabad Blue area firing case on Thursady has sentenced the accused Muhammad Sikander to 17-years life imprisonment.

The court however; has released her wife from all charges.

Sikander has also been fined Rs110,000 by the court whereas an additional six months will be included in his prison if he failed to pay the said amount.

On August 15, 2013, Sikandar while carrying a submachine gun and a Kalashnikov paralyzed the heavily policed capital of Pakistan. He started fired into the air in the central Jinnah Avenue neighbourhood when the traffic police stopped him for a violation.

Sikandar held his wife and children hostage in the whole incident and demanded the imposition of Islamic law.

The standoff ended when leader of the opposition Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Zamarud Khan went ahead to negotiate with Sikandar and suddenly jumped and caught him. However; he broke free and started firing.

He was then shot by police, caught and taken away. Later, Sikander was admitted to hospital where he underwent an operation to treat his wounds.

The incident raised numerous questions regarding how the armed man managed to pass through many checkpoints of the capital and drove to the area which is less than a kilometre from the presidency and parliament buildings.
