World Thalassaemia Day being observed today

CM Shehbaz assured to provide proper treatment to the Thalassaemia victims especially children.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Thalassaemia Day is observed across the globe including Pakistan on May 8 every year to raise awareness and prevention about this disease among the common public.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), the day is celebrated to remember the Thalassemia patients and to give them a chance to live like a normal person.

The condition of Thalassaemia in Pakistan is very serious as statistics reveal that more than 1 lac people are suffering from this ailment whereas more than 5000 children born with this disease every year.

In a message to mark the day, Chief Minister of Punjab (CM) Shehbaz Sharif assured to provide proper treatment to the victims especially children.

“We have to vow that efforts to stop further cases of Thalassemia in Pakistan will continue”, he added.

Medical experts said that lack of facilities in Pakistan have escalated the problems of Thalassaemia patients which can be overcome by increasing awareness about the disease, promotion of voluntary blood culture and organ donation.
