The court also called Attorney General for assistance while barring ECP from taking action

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Islamabad High Court (IHC) has on Thursday barred Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to take action against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan. The court also called attorney general for its assistance in the case, reported Dunya News.

Hearing the code of conduct violation case, IHC barred ECP from any action and took up the case for hearing. Imran Khan’s lawyer said that according to the constitution, only the prime minister, chief ministers, ministers and public office-holders were barred from running the election campaign. He argued that the ECP notifications against Imran Khan were in violation of Article 15 and thus should be declared void.

The court said that constitutional matters were needed to be answered in this case and thus asked Attorney General to assist the court in the case. ECP had to give its final verdict on the code of conduct violation on May 8.
