Around 2,481 students filed bogus identity cards to obtain laptops: report

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Report forwarded to CM Shehbaz Sharif has revealed on Monday that 2,281 students obtained laptops using bogus ID cards while 1,771 students received two laptopns each. 

Special audit report has revealed that Additional Secretary of Higher Education Commission among nine officials are responsible for unfair distribution of laptops among students under Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s laptop scheme.

It has been revealed in the report today that at least 1,771 students received two laptops each which cost over Rs 60 million to the government’s treasury.

Around 2,481 students filed bogus identity cards to obtain laptops.

Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif had formed a committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary of Punjab, Shumail Ahmed Khawaja to probe the irregularities which has forwarded its report today.

Administration of a concerned university has been absolved in the issue.

Chief Minister had launched a laptops scheme for students of Punjab under which merit-based distribution of the personal computers took place.
