Soaring load shedding to be curtailed in April: Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Traumatizing power cuts are gradually increasing across the country despite tall claims by the government regarding elimination of load shedding in 2018.

As per details available, Punjab’s rural areas are witnessing at least sixteen hours of load shedding whereas urban areas are being subjected to tolerate a minimum of six hours of power outages on daily basis.

Federal minister for Power and Water Khawaja Asif, while presenting government’s stance in Dunya Kamran Khan Kay Sath show, told that electric shortfall was temporary and situation would be contained in first week of April.

“Two power plants have been closed owing to technical issues whereas routine repair work is underway in four others. All of them will be operational by April 15. We will curtain 2300MW of power shortfall in first week of April”, stated Asif.

Asif further informed the host at least 6000MW of hydel electricity would be added in national grid after month of Ramazan. On a question pertaining to circular debts, Asif replied that Rs50 billion has been paid to power houses.

Hydel electric supply has been reduced to 1500MW. It earlier stood at 2600MW.
