Policeman, suspect injured in attack on census team in Charsadda

Army team's colonel assured that census process would be continued in the area.

CHARSADDA (Dunya News) – At least one policeman sustained severe injuries while the suspect also got wounded in an attack on census team in Charsadda today (Tuesday).

According to police, the team was busy in census amid tight security in Harichand area when unidentified armed man opened firing and hurt officer Taj Mohammad.

Police personnel retaliated and arrested suspect Fakhar Alam in wounded condition who was shifted to Lady Reading Hospital for medical assistance.

Army team’s Colonel Aftab and Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Ali assured that census process would be continued in the area.

Meanwhile, local government has announced Rs 50,000 for injured police officer.

Earlier on March 15, first phase of sixth national housing and population census begins across the country after 19 years that will continue till 15th of next month while head-count was started across the country in which transgender persons are also included for the first time in the history.

The security has been beefed up by deploying army soldiers along with every enumerator.
