Blast partially damages bridge in Gwadar
A roadside bomb weighing around 5 to 7 kilograms exploded in Gwadar.
GWADAR (Dunya News) – A bomb explosion took place under a bridge on main Sur Bandar road in Gwadar on Sunday morning, police sources told.
Reportedly, police received information regarding presence of a bomb under a bridge, however, it went off before arrival of the bomb disposal squad.
The bridge has been partially damaged in the incident while no loss of life has been reported.
According to police, it was a remote-controlled bomb weighing around 5 to 7 kilograms.
Gwadar, in Balochistan province, forms what officials call the "heart" of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, a grand $46 billion project giving Beijing greater access to the Middle East, Africa and Europe through Pakistan.
‘FULLY AWARE OF HOSTILE AGENDA AGAINST CPEC’
In a statement on Saturday, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa said that Army is fully aware of hostile agenda against CPEC and vowed that the security forces are fully prepared to defeat their design.
During his visit to the Headquarters of Special Security Division (SSD) responsible for security of Chinese on CPEC and non-CPEC projects, General Qamar Bajwa appreciated SSD for their state of preparedness and arrangements for execution of the assigned mission and tasks.
COAS reiterated Pak Army’s commitment to ensure security for CPEC and the work force involved. He emphasized upon the value we attach to the Chinese help and assistance extended in making this projects a success.
CPEC project is part of Beijing’s "Belt and Road" plan to expand its trade and transport footprint across Central and South Asia. It will give China easier access to Middle Eastern oil via the deepwater port of Gwadar in southwest Pakistan.
The CPEC involves 3,000-kilometre-long network of roads, railways and pipelines to transport oil and gas besides energy projects between Gwadar Port and Kashgar in China’s Xinjiang region.
