Irfan Elahi said both engines of PK-661 were in a complete working condition prior to taking off.

LAHORE (Daily Dunya) – Acting Chairman of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Irfan Elahi has revealed that the details of PK-661 crash were submitted in Senate without black box report.

Talking in Dunya Kamran Khan Kay Sath program, he said the initial inquiry was held by analyzing audio tape having record of talk between pilot and radar however, the second impact told that the plane fell straight down in the mountain range near Havelian.

During flight, one engine suddenly stopped working but another was functional. The pilot made two mayday calls while the other two flying pilots sitting in cockpit also contacted the control room, he added.

He said radar operator was talking to someone on phone however, the details of this call are yet to be ascertained.

On the other hand, Dunya News has obtained audio tape of the plane according to which, pilot Janjua was probably busy in making video of the valley before the mishap.

The role of second officer, who acts on the provided instructions given on checklist, in the whole incident was nowhere.

The plane had audio contact with the control room but it was not showing on the radar system after which the flight rammed into hills.

It was surfaced that plane’s transponder failed to work due to technical glitch.

Secretary of Civil Aviation Authority had submitted report in Senate stating the both of the engines of PK-661 were in a complete working condition prior to taking off.

The pilot made a first call on 4:12 pm to control tower in which his voice was completely normal.

A mayday call was heard two minutes afterwards and the pilot informed, at 4:14 pm, that one of the flight engines has stopped working. The plane was diverted towards East instead of South at 4:17 pm.

The pilot made a last call at 4:17 pm. The plane crash was reported just 10 to 15 minutes after it. According to Civil Aviation Authority (ACC), 100 percent data has been recovered from the black box in flight PK-661 after crash.

He said wreckage of PK-661 had been sent to Islamabad for further investigation whereas the prime minister had also visited Gwadar on the same plane a week before the incident took place.

It is currently being investigated that why the flight couldn’t make it despite one of its engine in working condition, he added.

The PIA flight PK-661 crashed in Havelian on December 7 last year, with 48 passengers. It was directed from Chitral to Islamabad. The plane lost connection with control tower after taking off.
