PIA's all 10 ATR aircrafts to remain grounded until shakedown tests

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – All ten ATR aircrafts of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will remain grounded till they are cleared after thorough examination.

According to spokesman of PIA, shakedown tests of entire ATR fleet will be held in view of Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) decision.

Temporary suspension of operation will particularly affect the PIA flights to smaller airports like Gwadar, Turbat, Panjgur, Moenjodaro, Zhob, Bahawalpur, DG Khan, Chitral and Gilgit.

Passengers are advised to check status of their flights from PIA Call Center at 111-786-786.

Earlier, PIA flight PK-581 from Multan to Karachi with 47 passengers and crew had escaped a major disaster when one of its engines caught fire just before the take off at the Multan Airport.

The disaster was averted when control tower informed pilot that one of plane’s engines has caught fire. The pilot stopped the aircraft from taking flight within a few moments before takeoff.

On December 7, flight PK-661 was crashed near Havelian after one of its two turboprop engines reportedly failed while travelling from Chitral to Islamabad, killing 47 people on board.
