SHC extends interim bails of co-accused in Dr Asim case till May 10

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday has extended interim bails of co-accused in Dr Asim case till May 10.

According to details, the hearing was held at SHC in which the court extended bails of co-accused Yousaf Ansari, Mirza Basharat, Zahid Mukhtar and others till May 10.

The suspects were apprehended for their alleged involvement in Rs 17 billion corruption case while National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has still not shown the detention of Dr Asim.

Earlier, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and former federal minister Dr Asim Hussain’s lawyers submitted a bail plea in the anti-terrorism court (ATC). The plea stated that the accused has neither treated nor sheltered terrorists at his hospital and he is being politically victimised.

While presenting the arguments, defence lawyer Asim told court that his client is mentally ill. His memory is getting weak day by day.

The accused, chairman of the Sindh Higher Education Commission, was arrested on Aug 26 last year during the ongoing Karachi operation.

A close aide to ex-president Asif Ali Zardari, Dr Asim Hussain has been accused of money laundering and unfair distribution of natural gas quotas as the federal petroleum minister.

He is also being investigated for suspected ‘terror financing’ and offering treatment to suspected criminals at his health facilities.
