Senior PPP members have advised former president Asif Ali Zardari not to meet PM Nawaz in London.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari is facing severe opposition by the senior party members on the issue of meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in London, sources revealed on Wednesday.

According to sources, the senior PPP members have advised former president Asif Ali Zardari not to meet the premier. The senior members have said that PPP has already faced losses and meeting with PM Nawaz in prevailing circumstances will further damage the party’s image.

Nawaz Sharif’s family is facing allegations of offshore companies and he kept details of his assets secret, they asserted, adding that not only Pakistan but leaders from all over the world are under pressure at the moment.

Pakistani masses and political parties are also concerned on the matter, they stated.

On the other hand, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is expected to chair the PPP core committee’s meeting to discuss strategy on the issue of Panama leaks.

Bilawal also expressed anger at former interior minister Rehman Malik’s meeting with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

He has sought explanation from Malik.

NAWAZ LEAVES FOR LONDON

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to Britain on Wednesday -- ostensibly to undergo a pending medical check-up -- has set political circles abuzz after he landed in controversy following the Panama Papers leak.

Only close family members will join Sharif. His two sons -- Hassan and Hussain -- are already abroad, a senior official said.

At a time when Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf chairman Imran Khan threatened to march toward Nawaz Sharif‘s residence in Raiwind, leaders of the opposition had been casting doubt on the reason for the prime minister‘s sudden visit to London.

The movement of Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari, who is also in London, is being closely monitored by the media.
