Weapons were seized from suspects' possession, says spokesperson

KUCHLAK (Dunya News) – Frontier Corps (FC) and police have detained as many as 14 suspects in a joint search operation, Dunya News reported Thursday.

According to the FC spokesperson, weapons were seized from suspects’ possession. The seized weaponry includes two submachine guns (SMG) and three pistols.

Earlier on March 4, Frontier Corps paramilitary unit conducted two separate operations in Sui and Kachhi Canal areas of Balochistan on a tip-off and recovered four locally made mines.

The operation was conducted in Goth Ara Muhammad and Goth Sundrani areas of Sui. The two mines seized weighed around 24 kilograms (Kg). A suspect was also arrested during the operation.

In the second operation in Kacchi Canal area, another two mines that weighed 18 kilograms were seized.

It should be noted here that late governor Salman Taseer’s son, Shahbaz was recovered a week ago from Kuchlak area. Shahbaz was kidnapped from Lahore in 2011 and managed to escape after more than four years.

Sources said that he was shifted to Kuchlak on advice of Mullah Akhtar Mansour, Taliban leader.

More than 3,000 militants have been killed since the launch of the latest offensive in tribal areas of Pakistan. Pakistani security forces have been battling militants for over a decade following the late 2001 US-led invasion of Afghanistan.

On February 7, nine including two FC officials were killed in a blast on Jinnah Road, near Liaquat Park, in Quetta. At least 30 were injured in the attack.

A suicide attacker, riding a motorcycle, targeted FC vehicle on Jinnah Road. The injured included women and children who were passing by.
