Four killed in roof collapse incidents in Peshawar

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Atleast four people were killed and two sustained severe injuries on Tuesday in two separate roof collapse incidents in Peshwar.

In Saeedabad area, roof of a dilapidated house fell down after heavy rain as a result of which 15-year-old Khalid and his 17-year-old sister Asri Gul died on the spot.



The sudden death of young children left the mother in trauma and state of shock.

Residents stated that the house was rough and rugged and had become more fragile as heavy rains continue to lash from the past five days.



The two injured were immediately shifted to Lady Reading hospital.

Meanwhile, two people also lost their lives in Regi Model Town after the roof caved in.

Atleast 11 people have fallen prey to heavy rains in Khyber Pkhtunkhwa till now.


Countrywide devastation


The death toll from torrential rain that has lashed Pakistan for the past five days has risen to 46, authorities said, with collapsed roofs blamed for the fatalities.

Apart from the deaths, 72 injuries were reported and 77 houses damaged, said a statement by the National Disaster Management Authority.

The rain began late Thursday across the country, with the southwestern province of Balochistan and northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa worst hit.



Poorly-built homes, particularly in rural areas, are most susceptible to collapse during heavy spring rains.

The death toll from the collapse of a coal mine shaft in northwest Pakistan rose to seven, with 10 injured.

Officials said the rescue at the mine in the far-flung mountainous Orakzai tribal district ended Monday morning after 16 people were saved.

"The rescue operation has ended and we have seven people dead, 10 injured while 16 others have been rescued from the mine," Zubair Khan, a top government official in the district, told AFP.

More than 30 miners were trapped after the shaft collapsed amid heavy downpours on Sunday.
