Religious parties reject Women's Protection Bill

Parties united against violence but believe Bill against violence contrary to societal norms

LAHORE (Web Desk, Dunya News) – Various religious political parties and groups of the country discarded the Women’s Protection Bill passed by the Punjab Assembly during a meeting held at the residence of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman on Saturday, reported Dunya News.

The personalities that were part of the meeting included Siraj-ul-Haq, Owais Noorani, Sahibzada Abu Al Khair Zubair, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, Akram Durrani and others. During the media briefing, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman stated that all the religious scholars and leaders are against violence carried out on women but the Women’s Protection Bill has certain clauses which are in contrast with the laws of the country and will disrupt the norms of the society but the religious parties will ensure that this never happens.

In order to maintain the ideological identity of the country, the religious parties will be meeting on March 15, at Mansoora, Lahore, where they will devise their strategy for the future.
