Ayaz Sadiq retained his NA-122 Lahore seat by defeating PTI’s Abdul Aleem Khan in the by-election held on October 11. The PML-N leader was de-seated earlier after the election tribunal found massive irregularities in election process in 2013.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has already announced to back Ayaz Sadiq for NA Speaker’s slot.

On the other hand, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to Shafqat Mehmood as candidate for the post.

Eleven parliamentarians of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) from three different parties and independent members have decided to back Syed Ghazi Ghulab Jamal (GG Jamal) as their candidate for the election of Speaker NA.

The ruling PML-N has a majority of 186 members in the 342-seat National Assembly and does not need backing of any other party for the election of the speaker for which its candidate will require a simple majority.
