ECP will decide whether to hold LB polls in Muharram or not: LHC
Petition moved by MWM stated that there are security concerns during Muharram
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Justice Ijazul Hassan of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday has said that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is an autonomous institution and can decide regarding postponement of local body (LB) polls in Muharram.
Petition filed by Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) stated that there are security concerns during Muharram and election campaigns cannot be held also. The petition urged the court to postpone the elections and order the ECP to chalk out new schedule.
However, Justice Hassan said that ECP is an independent department and would decide itself. The court directed the petitioner to ECP regarding the matter.
