9 embrace martyrdom after military helicopter crashes in Mansehra

Pilots Major Muzzamil and Major Humayun embraced martyrdom in the incident.

MANSHERA (Dunya News) – A helicopter of Army Aviation carrying 12 personnel crashed near Mohar Lassan, Mansehra. 9 personnel embraced martyrdom in the crash out of 12 persons on the helicopter, reported Dunya News.

The MI-17 helicopter was enroute to Gilgit after taking off from Rawalpindi when it crashed and destroyed near Mahar Lassan. The pilots Major Muzzamil and Major Humayun embraced martyrdom in the incident.

According to official sources, helicopter caught fire during its flight while the crash took place at 1800 hours. The helicopter was carrying doctors and paramedical staff for relief efforts to Gilgit.

Rescue teams have been dispatched to area of incident however difficulties were faced by the teams in reaching crash site due to difficult terrain. According to eyewitnesses, the accident took place due to helicopter crashing in the mountains.

The helicopter was enroute to evacuate a critically injured soldier in Gilgit, it is learnt.

The nine bodies have been shifted to Abbottabad Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
