LHC refers petition seeking ban on Altaf Hussain's speeches to PEMRA
The PEMRA rules do not allow MQM chief to deliver speeches on the television, maintains petitioner
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday referred a petition to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) seeking ban on Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain’s televised speeches.
Justice Ejazul Hassan held hearing of the case. Petitioner Kashif Sulemani Advocate maintained that according to the Political Parties Act, no foreign national could lead a party in the country whereas Hussain is a British national.
The PEMRA rules do not allow MQM chief to deliver speeches on the television, he added. The petitioner urged the court to issue orders of Hussain’s suspension from leadership of MQM in light of death row convict and former MQM activist Saulat Mirza’s statement.
The court ordered the petitioner to approach PEMRA regarding the matter.
