Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman assumes command of PAF

Earlier, PM issued notification of Aman's appointment as air chief with effect from March 19

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman on Thursday has assumed command of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) as new Chief of Air Staff (COAS) after Tahir Rafique Butt retired from the service. A ceremony was held at the Air Headquarters for official appointment of Aman as new air chief.

While addressing the participants of the ceremony, Butt said that the PAF is ready to take on any challenge. He said that the government provided full support to the armed institution. He said that the PAF has targeted countless hideouts of militants and killed large number of banned outfits’ operatives.

Country’s defense is PAF’s purpose of being, he added. Earlier, Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif had promoted Aman to Air Chief Marshal and issued notification of his appointment as new air chief with effect from March 19 2015.

The new COAS is an accomplished fighter pilot who also has earned Hilal-i-Imtiaz (military). Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman is a graduate of the Combat Commanders’ School, Air War College and Kings College (London). He has also served as air officer commanding of a regional air command and Deputy Chief of Air Staff (training) at the Air Headquarters.
