Karachi: Five-day polio campaign in 11 sensitive UCs delayed

Most of health workers and security personnel could not reach for duty today.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Anti-polio drive in eleven sensitive union councils of Karachi could not resume as most of the volunteers were not notified about their presence today (Saturday) by the health authorities.

During 5-day campaign, 213,000 children below age of five years will be vaccinated while 1000 policemen have been deployed for security of the health workers.

According to Commissioner Karachi, assistance of elders and social activists in sensitive areas has also been sought to make the campaign successful.

The anti-polio drive is being run in UC 4,5 of Gadap Town, UC-2 or Baldia Town, UC-7 of Orangi, UC-9 of SITE Town, UC-2 of Liaquatabad, UC-2 of Bin Qasim, UC-1 and UC-2 of Landhi and UC-3 of Korangi.
