Thar to become energy capital, vows Khawaja Asif

ECC has approved to generate electricity as IPPs by rental power plant, he assured.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – While talking to the ceremony in Islamabad, Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif on Thursday has assured that government will make Thar a stronghold of energy by eliminating loadshedding.

According to details, a ceremony took place in which an approval letter has been forwarded to Engro Power Company for providing 660 Megawatts (MW) cool power generation.

While talking to the ceremony, Khawaja Asif stated that Engro Company would set a power plant in Thar whereas 960 million have been reserved for carrying out this project that will start its generation in December 2017.

He vowed that Thar would be soon known as a prosperous area and stronghold of energy rather than famine and valley of deaths.

He further claimed that electricity outage has been reduced to three hours as compare to last year.

Khawaja Asif has also confirmed that Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved to generate electricity as Independent Power Producers (IPPs) by rental power plants.

Moreover, rental plants have to get clearance from National Accountability Bureau (NAB), he added.
