20.4 million people in 38 Punjab districts affected by floods: NDMA
The rescue and relief efforts are continuing and in full swing.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has reported that twenty point four million have been affected by recent floods in 38 districts of Punjab.
The NDMA report was presented in a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad on Monday, which reviewed damage and devastation caused by the recent floods.
Cabinet Secretary Ikhlaq Ahmed Taarar informed the meeting that the floods have affected twenty three districts in Punjab, ten in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and five in Gilgit Baltistan.
NDMA has so far, provided 20,000 Tents, 10,000 Plastic Mats, 20,000 Blankets, 471,000 Aqua Tablets, 30 mobile Filtration Plants, 31 boats and 100 life jackets to Punjab. Also 3,000 tents, 1000 blankets and 1500 plastic mats have been provided to AJK besides 200 tents, 1000 blankets and 3 boats to ICT and 275 tents to Gilgit Baltistan.
National Emergency Operation Centre at NDMA is monitoring flood situation round the clock and is in constant and regular coordination with PDMA Punjab. Both federal and provincial governments are ensuring their best possible measures to save life and property of people and to provide maximum relief.
The rescue and relief operations are underway in Multan, Uch-sharif, Bahawalpur and Athara Hazari to shift people to safer areas. The military choppers, boats and rescue 1122 personnel are continuing flood relief operation on round the clock basis.
Crops have also been damaged on 1.544 million acres of irrigated lands due to inundation.
On the other hand, the government of Sindh has directed people living along River Indus to move to safer places (Larkana, Shikarpur, Kashmore-Kandhkot district). NDMA has also issued advisory to all concerned and has directed precautionary evacuations and other necessary measures in all low lying and vulnerable areas to avert any situation of emergency. NDMA teams are already in Multan and Muzaffargarh for assessment of on ground flood situation. The teams are also monitoring rescue & relief activities in Multan and Muzaffargarh districts.
