Another polio case confirmed in Karachi, toll reaches 7 this year

KARACHI (Web Desk) - The health authorities of Sindh on Friday recorded this year’s seventh polio case in one-year-old boy in Karachi, Dunya News reported.
The child identified as Murad is resident of Landhi area.
Health authorities says that anti-polio campaign was launched many times in Landhi’s sensitive area but the locals did not cooperate with polio workers.
According to AFP, 82 cases of polio have been detected across the country this year.
Pakistan is one of only three countries, along with Afghanistan and Nigeria, where polio remains endemic, and efforts to eradicate it have been badly hit by rumours about the vaccine.
Various outlandish claims have circulated about the drops -- that they contain pork, or cause infertility or AIDS.
Pakistan recently imposed new travel guidelines after the WHO move, requiring all citizens and long-term residents to have a polio vaccination certificate to travel abroad.
