Tribal elders assure support to army operation in North Waziristan: ISPR

Operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan is progressing as per plan.

BANNU (Web Desk) - Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Bajwa on Saturday said that tribal elders have announced their support to ongoing military operation in North Waziristan Agency.

“Many tribal elders from around Miranshah, Mir Ali, Datta Khel assure support to army op,” DG ISPR Asim Bajwa posted the update on Twitter.

He said the tribal elders have assured that the terrorists will not be allowed to return back to their areas.

Earlier today, two militants were killed and five others got injured when gunship helicopters pounded suspected terrorist hideouts in Malak Din Khel area of Bara.

Official sources told that the terrorists were using a government as a shelter.

On Friday, three terrorist hideouts in area Qutab Khel, on the outskirts of Miranshah were destroyed by Army cobra gunship helicopters. It was an integrated action by cobra gunships, artillery and snipers. 12 terrorists including foreigners were killed in the strikes. Huge cache of arms and ammunition was also destroyed.

During ongoing operation, terrorists inside cordoned area are making desperate attempts to flee from area. 6 attempts were foiled on Thursday night and 3 locals who did not have any identity proof were apprehended while trying to flee from the cordon.

Another 24 Suspects who were trying to flee in the garb of IDPs were apprehended at various strangulation check posts in Mirali and Miranshah.

An organized evacuation of IDPs continued from North Waziristan Agency towards FR Bannu. Till Friday, 200,000 persons were evacuated from the area. So far 11 families (92 individuals) were enlisted in the IDP camp, Bakkakhel, Bannu.

400 Afghan families left North Waziristan Agency for Afghanistan through Ghulam Khan Border village on Thursday. They were provided all required administrative assistance.

Additional Lady Searchers (Police), Mobile NADRA vans and Smart card vans have been placed at IDP registration point to further streamline the registration process at Saidgai registration point. Total 20 booths i.e 10 each for male and females IDPs are continuously functioning for expeditious registration and move out of Agency.
