Model Town tragedy: Gullu Butt beaten up by angry mob in court premises
Gulu Butt vandalized public property during PAT workers clash with police in Model Town area.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Infuriated locals and lawyers attacked Gullu Butt when he was brought to a local court in Model Town today (Thursday).
Gullu Butt was hand cuffed and his face was covered when angry mob surrounded and tortured him. Only two policemen were escorting him at that time.
Butt was immediately shifted to hospital by the police after he fell unconscious.
Lawyers have demanded from the authorities to try Gullu Butt under anti-terrorism act.
On Tuesday, TV cameras had captured a man damaging vehicles in Model Town Lahore in the presence of police. The suspect was later identified as Gullu Butt alias Sher-e-Lahore, known to be a police tout in Model Town.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had directed the inspector general of police for Butt s immediate arrest.
ANOTHER VICTIM DIES
Earlier today, another victim of Tuesday’s violent clash succumbed to his injuries at Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital, increasing the death toll to 9. The victim was worker of Tahirul Qadri’s party Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT)
Also, IG Punjab Mushtaq Sukhera, DCO Captain (retd) Usman and DG LDA Ahmed Cheema have appeared before the judicial tribunal.
MODEL TOWN PROTEST
At least eight people were killed and 85 injured in Lahore on Tuesday when the police clashed with supporters of Dr Tahirul Qadri.
Qadri, a leader of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), a religio-political party, has been trying to form a grand alliance against the government while demanding a change in the present system through a revolution. He has promised to return to Pakistan on June 23.
The clashes started when PAT members tried to stop the police from removing barriers outside their leader s house in Lahore s Model Town Colony and the party secretariat.
