Mukhtar Ahmed appointed as HEC Chairman
Islamabad High Court had ordered the authorities to appoint Chairman HEC within 15 days.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif approved the appointment of Mukhtar Ahmed as Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman on Tuesday, Dunya News reported.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had ordered, Monday, the authorities to appoint chairman of Higher Education Commission (HEC) within 15 days.
Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqi heard the case pertaining to the appointment of HEC chairman on Monday.
During the course of proceedings, the judge remarked that the chairman wasn’t appointed despite court orders, adding that it comes under the contempt of court.
He said the HEC was running its affairs without any clear policy.
The judge warned that the Pandora box will be opened if HEC chairman wasn’t appointed within 15 days.
The education secretary apprised the court that a summary earlier sent to PM Nawaz for approval was rejected while a new committee under the supervision of Khawaja Asif had been formed for the appointment of chairman.
