SC orders PM, CMs to produce missing persons within 7 days

There is no law regarding 'forced detention' in the country, the Chief Justice of Pakistan said.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - The Supreme Court has ordered the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers of all four provinces to produce the thirty five missing persons within seven days.

The interim order was issued by a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in Islamabad on Tuesday.

During case proceedings, the Chief Justice remarked that despite clear directives of the court, the government produced only seven out of 35 missing persons, adding that justification in this regard are not acceptable.

He said that Prime Minister is administrative head of this country and he is well aware of the matter’s complexity.

The issue has prolonged despite his (Prime Minister) interest in the case, the CJP added.

Later, the bench directed the federal government to take action against the persons involved in undeclared detentions of the citizens.

Supreme Court has ordered the Prime Minister to ensure in future that no forced detention is made by any agency.
