Ex-Ogra chief Tauqir Sadiq will be presented before court on August 2.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) -  The accountability court on Tuesday granted ten days extension in the physical remand of Tauqir Sadiq, the prime accused in Rs82 billion Ogra scam case.

The former Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) chief was presented in Islamabad s accountability court before judge Muhammad Bashir.

During case proceeding, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) sought 14 days extension in the physical remand of Tauqir Sadiq but the court granted only 10-day extension.

On the other hand, Sadiq told the court that he has been subjected to torture during the investigation process, adding that he was being pressurised by the NAB interrogators to name prominent personalities including Jahangir Badar and Ali Badar in the case.

On this, the court directed that Tauqir Sadiq should be medically examined after his assault allegations.

The court also instructed the authorities to present the accused again on August 2.

Tauqir Sadiq is suspected of causing a loss of Rs 82 billion to the national exchequer when he was head of Pakistan’s oil and gas regulatory authority between 2009 and 2011, at around the same time that Raja Pervez Ashraf was water and power minister.

He fled abroad after the Supreme Court declared his appointment illegal on Nov 25, 2011, and ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to start an investigation against him.
