ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has offered the main accused in Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) corruption case, Tauqir Sadiq to become an approver against certain political figures.

The NAB asked Sadiq to become approver against former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Raja Pervez Ashraf and other officials allegedly involved in multi-billion rupee scam.

Earlier, NAB unveiled names of two former prime ministers allegedly responsible for appointing Sadiq and giving him protection.

According to details, the then scrutiny committee declared Tauqir Sadiq ineligible for the post of chairmanship. However, the then IT minister Raja Pervez Ashraf who was also the chairman of selection committee recommended his name which was later approved by the ex-prime minister Gilani.

Meanwhile, former interior minister Rehman Malik and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Jehangir Badar allegedly helped Sadiq escape the country while ex-petroleum minister Dr Asim has been involved for his alleged role in issuing licences for setting up CNG stations.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Supreme Court sought a report on the details of expenditure incurred to bring back Sadiq.
The apex court also ordered NAB to clarify who will be charged for these expenses. UAE authorities had handed over Sadiq to a team of officials of the NAB on Monday night.

The former Ogra chairman had fled abroad soon after the Supreme Court declared his appointment illegal on Nov 25, 2012.
