SC questions status of UN office in Islamabad

SC has sought the report from the government about the legal status of UN office in Pakistan.

 

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A two-member bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justice Jawad S Khawaja and Justice Ijaz Chaudhry resumed the hearing of missing persons’ case on Wednesday.


SP Investigation Lahore told the court that United Nations office in Islamabad refused to cooperate when contacted for the investigating of a missing person, Muddasar.


He further told the court that the UN officials at the office suggested that police should approach Geneva head office via Foreign Office.


Upon this, Justice Jawad S Khawaja inquired whether the UN Office in the country was working with the permission of the Pakistan government and was supposed to follow the Pakistani laws.


The court directed the Attorney General to submit a reply about disappearance of Gul Faqir and Noor Khan during the next hearing.


The SC adjourned the hearing of the case till July 17.
