No load shedding during Sehar, Iftar: Info Minister

Dunya News

The PML-N led government has been increasingly vocal about redressing the electricity problem.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervez Rasheed on Saturday announced that electricity load shedding will not be carried out during sehar, iftar and taraweeh timings during the holy month of Ramazan.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, the Information Minister said that currently the country requires 17,000 MW while the production stands at 13,000 MW.

He said the government spent Rs 503 billion to boost electricity generation.

Pervez Rasheed also expressed the hope that power generation will go up by 1,700 MW soon.

Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had earlier directed the Ministry of Water and Power to reduce load shedding during Ramzan.

Electricity shortages, which have plagued Pakistan for years, have reached crisis proportions. Lights go out for at least 12-14 hours a day in major cities of Punjab, and up to 20 hours a day in rural areas.
