FIA filed a petition in LHC, Rawalpindi Bench, for speedy hearing of Benazir Bhutto murder case.

RAWALPINDI: A division bench of the Lahore High Court comprising Justice Anwar ul Haq and Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Younas admitted the application for regular hearing Thursday and issued notices to the accused persons for January, 23.

The application was filed by special prosecutor of FIA, Chaudhry Zulfiqar. During the course of hearing of his application, Chaudhry Zulfiqar argued that High Court on a previous application of FIA had ordered the subordinate court to conduct prompt hearing of the case on the day to day basis. But the hearing is still facing delay in the subordinate court.

Earlier a week time was given but now two weeks time is given in connection with hearing of the case, he added.

Suleman Taseer murder case was decided within 10 months, he submitted. On the other hand Benazir Bhutto case who remained prime minister of the country for two terms has not been decided so far despite lapse of five years. Statements of only 17 witnesses have been recorded so far while list of witnesses contains 139 names.

The whole world has set its eyes on this case but its trial has not been completed so far, he stated.
